Tape and joint is the process of filling and smoothing the joints, screw heads and internal corners in plasterboard so the whole wall reads as one flat, continuous surface. It is the step that turns a boarded room into a paint-ready one, and it is the difference between a wall that looks built and a wall that looks finished.
A Level 4 finish covers the joints, screw heads and corners, then sands them flat. It is the standard specification for most homes and it is perfectly good under normal lighting.
Level 5 adds a full skim coat across the entire wall surface. You want it wherever light rakes across a wall: floor-to-ceiling glazing, long hallways with downlights, or any dark or gloss paint. Under those conditions a Level 4 finish will show its joints, and no painter can fix that afterwards.
It depends on the size of the job, the finish level and how straight the framing is. Level 5 costs more than Level 4 because it is a full extra coat over every square metre. Rather than quote a rate that turns out to be wrong, we come to site, measure up and give you a fixed price in writing. That visit is free.
It depends on size, complexity and drying conditions, and damp winters slow drying down more than people expect. A standard three-bedroom house is usually a week to ten days of finishing. You get a realistic timeline with your quote, and we tell you early if anything is going to move.
Both. A good share of our work comes through builders on new builds, extensions and shop fit-outs, and we also deal directly with homeowners running their own renovation. If you are a homeowner without a main contractor, we will walk you through what needs to happen and when.
No. Onsite quotes anywhere in Newcastle, Durham, Morpeth and the North East are free, and you get a fixed price in writing before anything starts. There is no obligation and we will not chase you.
Newcastle, Gateshead, Durham, North Shields, Whitley Bay, Ponteland, Morpeth, Hexham, Consett, Washington, Alnwick and Cramlington are all regular ground for us. For larger jobs we will go further afield, so it is always worth asking.
Earlier than most people think. Through the main Newcastle build season we are commonly booked several weeks out, and lining is one of those trades that holds up everything behind it. If you have even a rough date, get in touch and we will pencil it in.
